Update on Advances in Diagnostic Endoscopy and Early Gastrointestinal Cancer Treatment in Can Tho
On June 30th, in Can tho City, Phuong Chau International Hospital, in collaboration with Anh Khoa Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. and Olympus Vietnam, organized a workshop titled “Update on Advances in Diagnostic Endoscopy and Early Gastrointestinal Cancer Treatment”.
Master Dr. Tran Duc Canh from the Endoscopy Department at K Hospital, Hanoi, shared valuable information on the diagnosis and treatment of early gastrointestinal cancer at the workshop.
The event attracted many leading experts in digestive endoscopy in Vietnam, along with nearly 150 delegates including gastroenterologists, digestive and general surgeons, and radiologists involved in digestive endoscopy.
In her speech at the workshop, Dr. Tran Thi Truc Linh, Executive Director of Phuong Chau International Hospital, stated: “With the message ‘Knowledge is Sharing,’ this workshop aims to update knowledge and practical skills in endoscopy, diagnosis, and early treatment of gastrointestinal cancer, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare in the region.”
During the workshop, Master Dr. Tran Duc Canh from the Endoscopy Department at K Hospital in Hanoi warned that cancer is a major issue in the community today, particularly gastrointestinal cancer. This is one of the cancer types with the highest incidence and mortality rates among the top 10 cancer groups, with esophageal, stomach, and colorectal cancers being among them.
According to Dr. Tran Duc Canh, gastrointestinal cancer progresses very quietly, with almost no symptoms in the early stages. In the late stages, patients may experience more noticeable symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, weight loss, lymph nodes, and bleeding. If diagnosed and treated early, patients with gastrointestinal cancer have a very high chance of recovery, potentially over 95%. Endoscopic treatment allows for the complete removal of tumors with minimal invasion, preserving surrounding healthy organs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Do Duc Tri Nhan, Head of the Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at Phuong Chau International Hospital, mentioned that endoscopy has become a highly reliable tool for early cancer screening in the gastrointestinal tract. However, early cancer screening endoscopy is a complex procedure requiring many factors such as advanced equipment, high expertise, coordination between endoscopists and surgeons, and thorough patient preparation and adherence to procedures before performing the endoscopy.
Dr. Tran Thi Truc Linh, Executive Director of Phuong Chau International Hospital, spoke at the workshop.
According to Dr. Đỗ Đức Trí Nhân, Phương Châu International Hospital has established the first specialized center for digestive diseases in the Mekong Delta region, located within the hospital. This model combines gastroenterology, digestive surgery, and endoscopy, aiming for a comprehensive approach in diagnosis and interventional treatment for patients.
At the workshop, in addition to gaining insights from leading experts in digestive endoscopy in Vietnam on advances in diagnostic endoscopy and early treatment of gastrointestinal cancer, attendees also had the opportunity to engage with and practice various techniques and procedures for early cancer detection in the gastrointestinal tract using advanced endoscopic systems, under the guidance of top specialists.
